Jon Sopel favourite to replace Laura Kuenssberg as BBC Political Editor

The North America Editor has odds of 6/4 to be the next in the role, after he announced earlier this week that he would be returning from the USA.

Kuenssberg is reported to be in discussions about leaving the role to become a presenter on Radio 4’s Today programme, as the BBC shuffles around their on-air talent.

Other names linked with the political editor role include Newsnight policy editor Lewis Goodall, Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis, BBC News host Ben Brown, Radio 4 Today host Amol Rajan and political correspondent Chris Mason.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “With Laura Kuenssberg set to leave her role as BBC political editor, BBC’s North America editor Jon Sopel is the early 6/4 favourite to replace her with Lewis Goodall following behind at 5/2.

“Elsewhere, BBC presenters Emily Maitlis and Ben Brown are also contenders at 6/1 and 8/1, respectively, to become the new political editor.”

Who is favourite to be the next BBC Political Editor?

Odds are according to Betfair.

Jon Sopel: 6/4

Lewis Goodall: 5/2

Emily Maitlis: 6/1

Ben Brown: 8/1

Emma Barnett: 10/1

Faisal Islam: 14/1

Nick Robinson: 16/1

Andrew Marr: 20/1
